Fulfilling The Vision With Our First
Soccer Play Day May 13, 2017
The buses came loaded with kids from The Salvation Army/North Texas Youth Education Town, The YMCA, Arlington Urban Ministries, Mission Arlington & Safe Haven. Plus, officers from the Arlington Police Department brought kids from some tough neighborhoods to enjoy the day.
Breakfast by the Trinity United Methodist Men
The Honorable Mayor Jeff Williams
They started the day with a pancake breakfast served by the Trinity United Methodist Men and a healthy “kid friendly” lunch was also provided. The Honorable Mayor Jeff Williams joined for breakfast and mingled and engaged with the kids.
They were introduced to soccer skills, had fun playing soccer, other games they created, danced to the music and over lunch they shared in prayer and Christian fellowship. Many thanks go to volunteers from Trinity United Methodist church and our foundation. Special thanks to the coaches and players for the Arlington High Soccer teams who helped to teach and make sure every child was happy and having fun! Being Mothers Day, all went home with a special Mothers Day bookmark for their mom.
One of the APD officers said: “You have no idea what you are doing for these kids. They have a day where they can just have fun in a safe place and not worry about anything else.” From one of the kids who attended, “I’ve never been to camp before, my mom does not let me out of the house. Can we do this every Saturday?”
We know we created a lot of smiles on Soccer Play Day and this is just one way we are working towards fulfilling our vision.
If this touched you, a donation of only $10 can send another kid to one of our next “Soccer Fun Days” which we will continue throughout the year.
